Yashasvi Jaiswal came to Mumbai as a small-town boy from Bhadohi with a bat and almost nothing else. Few people expected him to become India’s most exciting young opener. In 2023, he scored 171 on his Test debut. In 2024, he hit 712 runs in a single Test series against England, including two double hundreds. By 2026, at 24, he has ten international hundreds across three formats. He scored his second ODI century in June this year, and he reached 2,500 IPL runs for Rajasthan Royals in May. But the last few weeks have been tough. He was left out of India’s ODI squad for the New Zealand tour, and he failed twice for India A in Lincoln. Looking for Yashasvi Jaiswal stats and age? The Mumbai–Goa Saga
In April 2025, Jaiswal wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association asking for a no-objection certificate to move to Goa. He gave personal reasons. Goa’s association even announced him and said he might captain the side. The move stunned Indian cricket. Mumbai had been his only domestic home since his teens, and fans and commentators were shocked. A month later, he changed his mind. He told the MCA that his plan to relocate with his family had changed, and the MCA accepted his request to withdraw the NOC. He has stayed with Mumbai since. Reports in October 2026 said he had also started practising wicketkeeping ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season, but this is not confirmed as a role change.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Selection Debate
Jaiswal’s biggest problem is not his form. It is a crowded India top order. In Tests he is a fixture. In white-ball cricket, he has been on the edge. He did not play a T20I after July 2024. Then He was a standby for the 2025 Asia Cup. He has played only six ODIs in total. On 17 October 2026, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin criticised the selectors after Jaiswal was left out of the ODI squad for the New Zealand tour. Ashwin said the young opener was not getting enough game time. The selectors have not changed the squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Playing Style: What Makes Him Different
Jaiswal plays with a calm kind of aggression. He is patient early, then attacks any bowler who strays. He cuts, pulls and drives with equal comfort. His 2024 England series showed his appetite for big scores. All three of his highest Test scores are 160 or above. He rarely gets out softly after a start. His weakness has been short-ball and swing early in his innings, as seen in Lincoln this week. His recent ODI hundreds show how fast he can adapt. He keeps the strike rate above 100 and still rotates well.
